Safety Notice – Register your appliance

The source of the fire at Grenfell Tower was a fridge-freezer, a Hotpoint model FF175BP or FF175BG. Neither model had been subject to a product recall.

Current advice to appliance owners is:-

  1. always to register your appliance when you buy one.
  2. leave space between the back of the appliance and the wall to allow air to flow freely.
  3. do not overload plugs.
  4. check that sockets are not damaged and leads are in good condition.
  5. always have enough smoke alarms in your home

To help ensure products and appliances remain safe, the Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances (AMDEA), a not for profit organisation set up Register My Appliance (RMA) as a not-for-profit safety initiative.

Nationally, less than half of adults (43 per cent) register their appliances with a manufacturer. To encourage more people to register, the Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances (AMDEA) created Register My Appliance which provides access to the registration pages of over 60 leading brands of domestic appliances. Register My Appliance is an easy to navigate online portal where landlords, their agents or their tenants can register their appliances so they are kept informed should there be any product recalls or safety notices.

In addition to the registration section, the Register My Appliance website includes other valuable features including a safety repair and recall listings, hints for household safety, tips for appliance care, explanations of product testing and standards, guarantees and warranties and the AMDEA members’ code of practice on product safety.

We urge all leaseholders/tenants that we work with to register on this website https://www.registermyappliance.org.uk/
